I haven’t posted here for a long time, but I just watched Adam Buick’s kiln opening live online today and enjoyed it so much I thought that I would share it with you.

One of the luckier happenings during this particular time in history, is the way that the online world has opened doors to many places that only weeks before we might not have been able to visit, and see things we might never have seen. I met Adam Buick in 2012, at the Contemporary Craft Festival in Bovey Tracey. I wanted to attend one of his kiln opening events during the following years, but never quite managed to make it.

Take a few moments and watch as Adam opens up the kiln to reveal shelves of the most beautiful  jars – the most lovely thing to me, was hearing that they “sing” as they come out of the heat and into the world. Magic.

Speaking of the Craft Festival, starting tomorrow, Weds May 6th at 2pm, they’ll be starting their first Live Video chats on Instagram Live with makers they work with and admire. They’ll be chatting with maker, designer and Pottery Throwdown judge, Sue Pryke. about her life in making and how she is working during the Lockdown.

On Thursday 7th, they’ll be chatting with textile artist, Helen Round and on Monday 11th, they shall be talking to clay animator, Jim Parkyn.

They are also planning a Digital Craft Festival, where you can meet the makers and wander round their studios, watch live demonstrations, take part in live workshops, watch films about craft and even do some yoga. More details to come…
